ScAW
UK Autoharps Events are open to everyone. We are a very friendly group of people spread throughout the country who come together to share our skills, knowledge and encourage new autoharpists in a musical mix of fun.
The autoharp is a rare instrument to see played in the UK. To hear a chorus of autoharps and learn every step of the way from the best players could change your life. Many of our members have formed strong friendships. Our group is a real community, not just a virtual one. We would love to see it grow throughout the whole of the UK.
Although some of our venues are fixed, others are held in different parts of the country every year, so you should never be too far away from one of our events. Are you coming out to play? Check out this years UKA Events Diary.

chapterI: UK Autoharp DAY

Come and try the autoharp at a reduced rate for first timers. You can also choose the "First Time Taster" option (morning class only) - and we can even lend you an instrument for the day. After you fall in love with the autoharp, we may be able to provide you with a Loaner Autoharp for a few months to get you started.

All UKA Days follow a similar format:

UKA Class
  1. Autoharp classes morning and afternoon, usually with a choice of three tutors who teach various styles to all levels of players from absolute beginners to the more experienced.
  2. A slow jam for all levels.
  3. Experienced members will be on hand to give help and advice.
  4. Hot and cold drinks, biscuits and cake, and a raffle.
  5. An Open Stage to end the day.

UKA days have been so successful that some have morphed into weekend festivals. Programmes may vary, but all will include a UKA DAY and choice of tutors. A typical event could be:
  • Friday Evening – meet up with friends old and new in a local pub for a music session and sing-along. All acoustic instruments welcome.
  • Saturday Morning & Afternoon – as the UKA Day above.
  • Saturday Evening Concert – There is a an extra charge for this, and people also attend who have not been at the Autoharp Day.
  • Sunday Morning – church service which features autoharp instrumental music and autoharp gospel singing.
  • Sunday Afternoon – Time for a chat and jam session at the pub before heading home.
