chapterI: Autoharp Friendly Music Sessions

  • England Flag AVON, BRISTOL - Nova Scotia Folk Club at the Nova Scotia Inn, Nova Scotia Place, Cumberland Basin, Bristol, BS1 6XL in the centre of the city). Every Monday, 7.30 for an 8.15 start.

  • England FlagCORNWALL - The Penzance Folk Club meets on alternate Wednesdays in the Admiral Benbow Pub, Chapel Street, Penzance (Just look for the building with a man on the roof). The pub is an amazing place to visit in its own right. The session is a “round the room” type of arrangement. They have a web site which will tell you about other sessions in the area.

  • England FlagCORNWALL - The Star Inn in St Just on Mondays is mainly Irish and more difficult to perform at because of the noise from customers.

  • England FlagCORNWALL - The Pirate Pub, at Alverton in Penzance, on Tuesdays is an excellent one for joining in with mainly Cornish folk and Morris music or you can perform solo.

  • Devon FlagEAST DEVON - Jurassic Folk & Jam, meets at the Eyre Court Hotel, Seaton, on the 1st & 3rd Wednesday of the month at 8pm (except August). All abilities of musician will receive a warm welcome. Sessions are hosted by Adrian Ball & Andrew Mycroft. Spectators are encouraged to attend these FREE Jam & Folk Sessions.   • England FlagLONDON, SW18 - The Court Sessions Folk Club.  The club meets at The County Arms, 345 Trinity Road, London SW18 3SH on the last Friday of each month. To verify, here is a link to their website:

  • Wales FlagSHROPSHIRE/MID-WALES BORDER. The Breidden Sessions, monthly on the last Wednesday. A very friendly and diverse session - anything as long as it’s acoustic. At the Breidden Hotel, Middletown on the A458 Shrewsbury/Welshpool road about a mile into Wales. “Regulars include several wellknown folk musicians but there is a fine welcome for total beginners. We meet for friendship not to show off.”

  • England FlagSTAFFORDSHIRE - The White Swan at Fradley Junction (on the canal, DE13 7DN) has a session every Thursday. This is one of those where you have to have the courage to butt in and perform, or you can often join in with the whole group when they play well known folk tunes with no non autoharp chords. Fradley Junction is near Lichfield and can be reached from the A38.

South West Scotland

  • Scotland FlagWIGTOWN, DUMFRIES AND GALLOWAY, SCOTLAND. First Sunday Pub Session (between 2pm and 6pm) – has moved to the bar at The Craft Hotel, Wigtown. This session will usually happen on the first Sunday of the month, but in some months, the date may clash with a regional music festival, in which case the session won’t happen. ScotlandThe Southwest Scotland Autoharp Group has been meeting monthly since 2009 on a Saturday afternoon to enjoy playing and singing together, developing repertoire and techniques. Nadine is leading the group, which often meets in her home near Whithorn, but sometimes moves to alternative venues near Newton Stewart.
